The end of the stories of Jacob and Joseph.
This Old Testament book follows on 400 years after the end of Genesis with the Hebrews in Egypt. The meaning of the word Exodus is exit or departure and so the book tells of their departure from slavery in Egypt by God’s deliverance taking them to the edge of the Promised Land. As leader of the people Moses is the key character. At Mount Sinai God gives the newly emerging nation the laws which were to form the basis of their life. These are summed up in the 10 Commandments. The book is also a sobering lesson as the Hebrews end up wandering the wilderness for 40 years after disobeying God. Themes of sacrificial lamb, blood, salvation, passover, Promised Land would return with Jesus in the New Testament.
