Our Church Family Prayer 

 

Heavenly Father, Sovereign God, Thank you that you love and care for us your children; protect us, provide for us and when we are scared you gather us into your arms and hold us close, where we feel safe.  In these days, Lord, we are facing a danger, the likes of which we have not encountered for a long time.  We need to feel your presence, our heavenly Father. Today and tomorrow and beyond will you bring those qualities of love and care, protection and provision to us for it appears we are going to walk through a dark valley, that will cast a shadow over us. 

 

Help me not to be afraid, but rather as I take time with you each day to pray and to read the Bible, may I find your peace which is beyond my understanding.  Whatever today brings to me, may I trust in You.  Help me to know and to experience Your promise in what you say in Isaiah, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned the flames will not set you ablaze.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.” 

 

Today I pray for 

  • Myself and my family - those nearest and dearest to me, keep us safe in your love 

  • My church family - that you will keep us strong in faith and fellowship 

  • This nation that has seen more than it’s fair share of troubles in recent history may be brought through this trouble to better days 

  • An opportunity each day to be thankful and see the good that will remain around me 

  • The elderly, especially those on their own, who may be frightened by all that is being said in the media.  Grant them your peace and the support of family, friends and neighbours. 

  • Our young people, boys and girls, facing new routines, boredom and the loss of activities and friends.  

  • Those who work in the health service - the doctors and nurses who may well face very difficult days with demanding hours of work, tough decisions and exposure to the virus, and who will be concerned about their own families.  May they see the value and benefit of all that they do going through. 

  • The scientists working to understand the virus, it’s origin and spread - give them significant breakthroughs that will lead them to developing a vaccine whilst you work in us, in the bodies you have designed to produce a natural immunity. 

  • Those in government trying to chart a path through this crisis - give them wisdom and the best advice available 

 

Lord grant that together we come through this stronger and more full of faith.   When the days are dark for us, may Jesus who is the light of the world shine upon us with His comfort, His hope and His peace. 

Make today, one day closer to the end of this and bring it soon O Lord our God. 

Now, to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!  

Amen. 

 

 

A Prayer To Pray with Your Children  

 

Heavenly Father, 

 

Thank you that you are always with me, my family and friends. Just now there are lots of difficult and confusing things about coronavirus in the news. Everyone is whispering about it. Sometimes I am scared and I can see that those around me are scared too. Help me to trust you and to remember what you have said in the Bible “ Do not be afraid.”  Might this be a time when I get to know you more as I learn to trust you and see you answer my prayers. Please help those who have this virus  and all the doctors and nurses who are going to get so busy taking care of them, especially those in our church family.  

 

Bless me at this time when my school is closed, I can’t see so much of my friends and enjoy my clubs and activities. At home may I be helpful and not lazy, may I learn to play and learn in new ways. Help me to think of others being careful when I cough and what I touch and help me not to be grumpy when I’m bored or have to keep on washing my hands.

The Lord’s Prayer 

 

Our Father, who art in heaven 

Hallowed be your name 

Your Kingdom come,  

Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 

Give us today, our daily bread 

And forgive us our sins 

As we forgive those who sin against us. 

And lead us not into temptation 

But deliver us from evil 

For Yours is the Kingdom 

The Power and the glory 

For ever and ever,  

Amen.
